Welcome fellow stoners! Watching some television while being high is definitely one of my favorite Friday nights. We’ve put together a list of the best stoner movies, I’m sure some of these you already know. All of them are funny and have the 420 vibe!

The Pineapple Express (2008) is a cult-classic stoner comedy with great humor and unexpected action. Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film stars Rogen alongside James Franco. The story follows process server Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) and his pot dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) as they accidently get involved in a dangerous drug war after witnessing a murder. Packed with hilarious scened, absurd situations, and over-the-top action sequences, "Pineapple Express" is a classic that delivers laughs and surprises in equal measure, earning its place among the best stoner movies to watch in 2024!
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is a typical stoner comedy, blending irreverent humor with a satirical take on cultural stereotypes. Starring John Cho as Harold and Kal Penn as Kumar, the film follows the duo on an epic quest for White Castle sliders after a late-night craving strikes. Along the way, they encounter a series of absurd and surreal misadventures, from a cheetah ride to a memorable encounter with Neil Patrick Harris. This hilarious escapade challenges stereotypes while delivering a unique brand of humor, definitely a good way to spend your evening!
Ted
Both Ted 1 and Ted 2 are amazing stoner movies to watch! Both directed by Seth MacFarlane, who also voiced over the teddy bear Ted himself, the Ted movies are hilarious and packed with heartfelt moments. The film explores the challenges faced by John Bennett (played by Mark Wahlberg) as he navigates adulthood with his childhood friend, his teddy bear Ted. "Ted" is a raucous and unconventional tale of friendship, maturity, and the absurdities of life. With a perfect blend of irreverence and charm, "Ted" became a surprise hit, resulting in the second movie. I have the second movie in the cinema after we smoked weed, highly recommend this 😉
How High
How High, a stoner movie starring rapper Method Man and rapper Redman, takes weed hilarity to new heights. The film follows Silas (Method Man) and Jamal (Redman), two underachievers who accidentally discover that smoking their deceased friend's ashes enhances their academic prowess. As they blaze through their college entrance exams, chaos ensues, blending outrageous humor with a funny take on education and society. Bad trip
The most recent movie on our list is Bad trip, launched in 2021, is a sidesplitting hidden-camera comedy that flips the genre on its head. Starring Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish, the film follows two friends on a road trip, blending scripted narrative with unsuspecting real people reacting to their outrageous antics. The combination of the hidden camera pranks with the scripted footage results in a hilarious chaotic journey, encountering absurd situations and creating genuine, unscripted reactions. With a mix of slapstick humor and heartwarming moments, Bad Trip stands out as a unique addition to the prank-comedy genre, leaving audiences in stitches while surprising them with an unexpected dose of authenticity and camaraderie.
Superbad
"Superbad" (2007) is an stoner comedy movie that captures the essence of teenage friendship and misadventures. Directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow, the film follows inseparable high school pals Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) as they go on a quest to buy alcohol for a party, leading to a cascade of hilarious and very unpredictable events. With its funny dialogue, relatable characters, and genuine portrayal of being a teenager, Superbad has become a cult classic, celebrated for its humor, heart, and the enduring portrayal of the awkward and challenging journey to adulthood. Our favorite character was McLovin, what about yours?
Cheech and Chong – Up in Smoke
Cheech and Chong: Up in Smoke, released in 1978, is the iconic stoner film that resulted a cultural revolution. Directed by Lou Adler, the movie stars the legendary comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The plot follows the adventures of Pedro (Cheech) and Man (Chong), two clueless stoners going through a series of misadventures. Fueled by marijuana related humor, the film became a countercultural phenomenon, manifesting the 1970s' laid-back ethos. Up in Smoke not only solidified Cheech and Chong's status as stoner comedy pioneers but also remains a timeless classic stoner movie.
Mac & Devin Go to High School
For sure one of our favorites! Mac & Devin Go to High School is a comedic escapade starring hip-hop icons Snoop Dogg (Mac) and Wiz Khalifa (Devin). The film follows the duo's adventures in high school as they face the challenges of growing up while pursuing their stoner lifestyle. The movie blends stoner humor with a coming-of-age narrative, creating a unique experience. Snoop Dogg's charisma and Wiz Khalifa's great energy shine through, making "Mac & Devin Go to High School" one of our favorite weed movies of all time. The movie is filled with songs of Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa which till this day are still in our stoner playlist.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, directed by Terry Gilliam, is a wild and trippy ride. Starring Johnny Depp as Raoul Duke and Benicio del Toro as his crazy lawyer Dr. Gonzo, the movie follows their drug-fueled road trip to Las Vegas. Based on Hunter S. Thompson's wild storytelling, the film captures the craziness of the American Dream gone haywire. With crazy visuals and the actors' wild performances, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a masterpiece that is both chaotic and unforgettable.
Half Baked
Last but not least, we advise you to watch Half Baked. This stoner film was released in 1998 and will definitely get a smile on your face. Starring Dave Chappelle as Thurgood Jenkins, a lovable slacker, the film unfolds when Thurgood and his pals (Harland Williams, Jim Breuer, and Guillermo Díaz) accidentally find themselves involved in a cannabis misadventure. Directed by Tamra Davis, the movie serves up a mix of weed humor and interesting scenes, making it a cult classic among cannabis enthusiasts.
